Spring Table Setting

A few months ago, I was at the Old Lucketts Store in Leeseburg doing some shopping for a friend when I came accross this (beautiful!!!) set of china for only $64!!!! We had gone all the way out there & hit traffic and the store was closing & they were nice enough to let us in for the last few minutes while they closed up. It was fate. ;) ;) hahaha

There were 6 place settings along with servingware & a pretty little creamer.

I LOVE transferware & was not in the market for new china (my own is in storage!!) but I couldn't pass it up because this is my color (greeny-aqua-gray) and the price was too good to be true. The are by J &G Meakin and are a series of "Romantic England" and feature different castles & estates in England. I went to replacements.com and found that it would have cost me $260 for the set! (Here they are: http://www.thefind.com/kitchen/info-england-dinner-plate)

And, do you remember that I was attempting to use all of my leftover fabric? Well, this aqua linen tablecloth is leftover & was such an easy no-sew project. I just cut it to the right size, frayed the edges & washed it:

And please excuse all my wrinkles. They're usually always there because I can't stand ironing. It takes a very special occasion for me to break out the iron (actually mine's in storage!!) & I knew you'd all understand. (hahaha in my mind I've sort of started to like wrinkles, but I think it's just me convincing myself it's okay not to iron!) Below is a pitcher of mine that I found at a thrift store & just move around all the time:

So anyway, I decided because it's time for Spring, to do a Spring lunch tablesetting and play with all of my pretties:

I like things to feel informal & fun & also to be a happy & realxed hostess, I often make things easier on myself by coralling silverware in little pitchers for a casual lunch:
Below is a pretty little dessert stand that I piled up napkin rings on. It really serves no purpose other than being decorative but you know how I love quirky arrangements & I do love the juxtaposition of the silver & white porcelain, which is what the whole tablesetting is about:
Below is one of my favorite items. It's a pitcher I got from Target. It's just so practical & I love its lines. (I've seen antiques for much more than I paid!)
My husband surprised me with the hydrangeas & I just love them :)
So there you have it. Now, what's for lunch? carry-out?? haha is that ok?? ;) ;)

have a beautiful weekend!!! (and come on Spring!!!)

xoxo,

The Search for Home: The Bungalow

This is a house that's been on my list for over 2 years & it's gone down over $120,000 since I've had my sights on it. (Funny how in-demand my favorites are, right?!! ;) It's a bungalow built in 1911, is in the same town my husband works & is about 20 minutes away from my family (parents & grandparents) & where we'd like to be. It's situated on half an acre (wahoo!!!) is I LOVE IT. Below is more how I imagine it would look if I could get my hands on it:
Here is the living room (below) which is really tiny & I would definitely want to knock the right wall down (which is a bedroom) & have it expand the width of the house. How gorgeous are the floors?!! 10 foot ceilings and all of the original details!!! Floor to ceiling windows!! It's been in the same family all of this time.

Here's another view of the living room:

Here's the adorable vintage bathroom with the original fixtures, most of which I would keep:
Love the tub but would have to go with those wraparound clawfoot rods for function:
Here is the dining room & this is the room that does it for me. I LOVE those uper windows & al the woodwork. Although I have to admit that bungalow-lovers would probably hate the crime I would have to do to this house: It would go white... da-da-da-dun! It owuld just have to. sorry.
Here's the kitchen which is situated in the back of the house. It's prettyold, but I think would be pretty easy to fix up.

I'd want it to feel something like this, below (This is maybe my FAVORITE kitchen ever... you will see it again ;) the wall of windows is on my kitchen wishlist.)-- country living

Upstairs there's this little room: A child would go here since they're little people ;) ;) hahaha but seriously I think it's a really cool room even though it's short. The eventual plan would be to put an additon on the house to get it more liveable space-wise.

There are 2 bedrooms on the main level which I would eventually want to open up into living space (once an addition went on.) I drew the floorplans for the addition this past summer & have that all planned out but won't bore you with it.
And finally, here is the awesome screened-in shed:

I think I would want to do something like this (country living) to it:

Isn't that just one of the best little secret spaces you've ever seen?!!! I just want to be there right now. really. They added glass to an old potting shed & I think this would work out with the structure on the property:

How beautiful?!!!!Anyway, my husband says this house is a no-go & I've been working on him for a long time with this one & he isn't budging. He won't go for the neighborhood. :(
