I purchased these pair of chairs on Craigslist for $75. I did my research and similar chairs were selling online at various antique stores for $800 and up. This is original leather and I am such a conservationist that, while I intended to recover and they would look much better in my apartment recovered, I am finding it very difficult to do so.
At work, I regularly alter antiques to fit the space for clients. Cut rugs down to fit a room, refinish wood furniture, remove antique textiles from chairs bought at auction, replace worn horsehair upholstery with new foam and down. It never feels right.
Question is: to preserve or to refresh?
