Adopt a Pet

We adopted another member of our family this weekend.  I want to encourage those of you out there who are thinking of getting an animal to adopt a homeless pet.  We have two wonderful rescue dogs that couldn't be better.  There are some common misconceptions about adopting a pet.

1. You don't know what you will get.  If you buy, you don't know the personality of the animal anymore than adoption.  If you adopt from a rescue the organization can tell you about the animal in detail.

2. You can't train a homeless pet.  Having two parents that love dogs and like a challenge, I have seen very naughty dogs become well behaved pets.

3. You can't find a purebred.  There are rescue organizations all over the US that are specifically for different breeds, you can even find puppies.

Homeless pets are grateful to have a loving family.  There are millions of animals that are killed each year because of overpopulation.  These pets are just as good as anything you can buy, if not better (but don't get me started on puppy mills).

I want to introduce you to the sweetest dog, Kaylee.  I met Kaylee when we were considering adopting her, but our geriatric boston terrier/ chihuahua mix did not approve.  He is lucky he came first, because she is adorable and loves people.  Kaylee is available through Rescue Me Animal Project and is being fostered by Emmie at Aspirations of A Southern Housewife Blog.  Plus she is petite and I hear she likes kids too.  How can you say no to that face?
