As I am recovering from my son's 3rd birthday party,
I now find myself back looking thru some lovely homes...
I found quite a few in NSW today, but this one stood out from the crowd!

An 1880's fully restored sandstone home,
this one is simply divine!

A lot of white throughout homes these days,
obviously a very popular colour, not so boring, just spectacular!

This is the epitome of indoor/outdoor living in Sydney I bet!

I can't imagine living with sandstone
in my hallway and bedrooms every day!

And I think the bathroom is perfect for this home,
bit glamour really!

This is living!

WOWEE
I know I said I'd be back yesterday with a real post but I'm pretty backed up right now with work & trying to figure out the childcare situation, so I need a little break.  We toured a couple of daycare/ preschools  yesterday and I'm feeling pretty good about 1 so we'll see how it goes.  For now I'll just leave you with an image I got from one of my favorite reads, Head Over Heels.    It's perfect for the beginning of Fall and I cannot get over that velvet.  So sumptuous & beautifully aged!!  (I'm not sure I've actually used "sumptuous" in a sentence before but could think of no other word!)

And some news/ details about the new store:  The Loudon Design Center plans to open a new trade-only showroom in historic Leesburg, Virginia and I'll have an office at the showroom.  On the weekends, the store will open to the public as Pure Style and we will offer a line of furniture and fabrics I'm currently designing, along with one-of-a-kind pieces and trade-only fabrics & furnishings.    The owner, Elise Seidita, is finishing up negotiations and if all goes as planned, we will open for business in October.  (keep your fingers crossed!!)

The showroom will need to be totally redone and I'll definitely take you along in the process of designing the new space.  I am so excited to start this new venture!!  As you probably remember, I love shopping at the Old Lucketts Store & On a Whim Antiques (both in nearby Lucketts, VA) and other shops in Leeseburg, so I'm so excited to be nearby and become a part of the growing design community there.

xoxo,
lauren

Converted Warehouse Living

I found it a bit hard to find an interesting property in QLD tonight,
been looking for hours, but this one I don't mind!

It's a warehouse conversion,
this is a very popular idea in Melbourne, don't know about other states!

Obviously close to Brisbane, with views to match!

Lovin the original features like timber beams on the ceiling
(painted thank god!)

Simple but effective conversion!

Even a pool in the grounds - very mod!

Mini Skull Vase Fillers {a pb knock off}

IMG_1840

I know it is a little early for Halloween, but I am hosting a party this year so I have been working on a few projects to get ready.  I don’t know if you saw the Mini Skull Vase Fillers in the PB catalog, but I quite liked them.  So you can only imagine my excitement when I found these skulls at the dollar store!

IMG_1837  IMG_1839

I got a pack of like 8-10 for $1.  They were a little smaller and brighter than the PB ones, but very similar.  To tone down the whiteness I put the skulls, along with some brown acrylic paint and a little water in a Ziploc baggy.  I mixed them around and moved them about so they were coated with the paint and then let them dry on a paper towel. So very easy.

IMG_1841

I simply placed them in an apothecary jar with Spanish moss and finished it off with a rustic tag I stamped.  Who’d ever guess it only set me back a couple bucks?  And did you check out the price on PB’s?  Mmm Hm.

Thank you Pottery Barn.  Thank you dollar store.  Happy Halloween. ;)

Where I Blog

Kate at Centsational Girl is having a fun party to show where all the blogging goes down.  I love this idea! It has been fun for me to see where everyone is blogging,  so I thought I would join in because maybe, just maybe, one of  you might enjoy seeing where I jot down my thoughts and projects to share with you.

IMG_1932

Here it is, in all it’s glory!  I really wish I had some fab space to show you, but the truth of the matter is that I have smallish children that need me what seems like every. second. of. the. day. (please know I wouldn’t have it any other way!)  So having my computer off the kitchen in the central family area works best because otherwise I may never get bits and pieces of a blog post put together into one somewhat cohesive blog post.  And being able to hide it works best because, well… it looks like this.

I totally  should could have made it look a little more presentable for ya, but I decided to keep it real and show you how it truly looks.  Coffee cup, starburst wrapper, scattered papers, dust and all.  I have to say though, seeing it like this makes me want to be better. More organized.  Hey maybe there will be an upcoming post on ‘how I cleaned up my super tiny family computer/blogging station computer armoire computery area. place’.      Maybe. ;)

Ok stop drooling over my “office” and go check out all the other great spaces!!

Colour Harmony Guide – Circa 1965

As designers, we work with colour all the time and one of our main tools of the trade is the colour fans.  Each company has there own style and system but it is quite cool to see what was in use many years ago.

Last week, I received another great present – yes, from the same aunt who gave me the Cosmopolitan covers not too long ago, which inspired my entry Cosmopolitan Magazine Then and Now

A classic exercise in colour - Which of the Greens on the page is darker?

Believe it or not they are the same!

IMG_2654Oooooooh! – Beautiful Interiors

IMG_2655

I had my fair share of this kind of room as before shots in my interior design projects in Victoria BC. I think this was a very popular colour combo back in the day.  Avocado fridges anyone?

IMG_2656 Would you be comfortable dining in this room?

IMG_2657 This room totally reminds me of the work by David Hicks – Have you noticed the lack of green fabrics lately – You can find green in fabrics but not solid green fabrics.

IMG_2658 And this room could totally be done by Jonathan Adler

IMG_2659 Retro Vibe – Love the use of the 3 cubes and the yellow accent chair

The colour catalogue has these cool cut-outs to see the colour trends of 1965.  Colours like Alligator or Casablanca were the big hits.  Not too far from what is going to be trendy in the near future.

By the way the gift came slightly incomplete there is a little bit of damage including a missing back – Gotta love that aunt with all her wonderful “treasures”.
